WHY KWARA NEEDS PROF. ALI AHMAD: LEADERSHIP THAT PROTECTS, NOT PUNISHES
Good governance is measured by how leaders treat their people—especially in difficult times. As Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Prof. Ali Ahmad provided leadership that stood firmly with the people, prioritizing their welfare over revenue ambitions.
One of the most telling moments of his tenure was when the Assembly, under his leadership, rejected the controversial Infrastructure Maintenance Support Levy Bill at the first reading. The bill, though presented by the Executive, would have imposed an additional tax burden on citizens. Prof. Ahmad and his colleagues knew the state was not economically ready for such a levy and took a principled stand to protect the people.
But that was not all. The Assembly also opposed any form of excessive revenue drive or tax increase, knowing it would worsen the hardship already faced by Kwarans. They recognized that the people needed support, not exploitation.
Today, however, the current administration has embraced aggressive taxation and harsh revenue collection. From small traders to struggling households, the weight of government policies is felt everywhere—but not in a way that uplifts lives.
Kwara needs a Governor who knows the law, understands the people, and acts in their best interest. Prof. Ali Ahmad has proven that leadership is not about control, but about compassion and courage. He governed with conscience, ensuring that laws served the people—not punished them.
The difference is clear. While others govern with levies and pressure, Prof. Ali Ahmad leads with fairness, intellect, and empathy.
Let’s return to leadership that works for everyone.
Let’s move forward with Prof. Ali Ahmad—for a Kwara that truly puts people first.
