PROF. ALI AHMAD RAISES ALARM OVER ESCALATING TERROR IN KWARA’S BORDER COMMUNITIES

Former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Prof. Ali Ahmad, has raised a grave alarm over the emergence of a new terror group, Mahmuda, currently unleashing havoc in Kwara’s Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas. The armed group, reportedly operating from the Kanji Lake National Park axis, has been linked to multiple killings, kidnappings, and the brutalization of innocent villagers.

Prof. Ahmad described the situation as “an urgent humanitarian and security crisis that demands immediate and coordinated intervention by both the Kwara State Government and the Federal Government.”

“It is heartbreaking and unacceptable that communities like Kemanji, Tenebo, Baabe, Nuku, Nunu, and Yashikira are under siege. The recent slaughter of over 15 vigilante members and villagers in Kemanji is not just a tragedy — it is a stain on our collective conscience,” Prof. Ahmad declared.

He decried the silence and inaction of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, insisting that the Chief Security Officer of the state owes the people urgent answers and bold leadership in this perilous time.

“Governor Abdulrahman, where are you? Have you visited Kaiama or Baruten since these attacks escalated? Have you summoned an emergency security council meeting to address the killings? Have you presented a security action plan to the people of Kwara North?”

“What steps have you taken to demand immediate federal military intervention? Why are our local vigilantes left to die without support? Why are soldiers lamenting the lack of arms to confront terrorists?”

Prof. Ahmad continued: “The time for half-measures is over. Our people are calling, and the time to act is now. We implore the Governor to lead from the front — with urgency, empathy, and resolve.”

“Our people are not asking for too much — only the right to live without fear,” he stated. “We must not allow our state to become another theatre of unchecked bloodshed. Let us act now, boldly and together.”

He prayed for the souls of the slain, the safety of the abducted, and for wisdom and strength for those in positions of leadership.

“May this moment serve as a turning point — a wake-up call to all who still care about Kwara and its future.”
