PROF. ALI AHMAD CONGRATULATES NEWLY ELECTED NUT EXECUTIVES ACROSS KWARA’S 16 LGAs

Former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Prof. Ali Ahmad, has congratulated teachers and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) across the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State on the successful conduct of their recently concluded local elections.

Describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and rancor-free, Prof. Ahmad commended the maturity and discipline displayed by Kwara teachers throughout the process, calling it a model for democratic leadership within professional unions.

“The teachers of Kwara State have once again demonstrated their commitment to unity, accountability, and professionalism by electing their leaders without conflict or division. This is a strong signal that the teaching profession still upholds values that the wider society must emulate,” Prof. Ahmad stated.

He warmly congratulated all the newly elected NUT executives in the various LGAs and urged them to see their emergence as a sacred call to serve—not to rule. According to him, leadership in such a critical sector demands selflessness, vision, and unwavering loyalty to the collective good.

“I urge the new leaders to uphold the promises made during their campaigns. They must place the interests of their members—the teachers—above personal or sectional gains. Any compromise on this sacred trust will not only betray the union but will also hinder progress in our educational system,” he advised.

Prof. Ahmad called on the new executives to embrace transparency, inclusiveness, and proactive dialogue with government and stakeholders to improve the welfare and working conditions of teachers across the state.

He also appealed to the Kwara State Government and educational authorities to work closely with the new NUT leadership at the grassroots to ensure policies that strengthen the quality of education, promote teacher development, and prevent industrial unrest.

“Our teachers deserve strong, ethical, and courageous leadership. I believe the new LGA NUT executives have what it takes to raise the bar and deepen the union’s relevance in today’s challenging environment,” he added.

Prof. Ahmad concluded with a prayer for a successful tenure for all the elected leaders and encouraged teachers to continue holding their union accountable with unity and purpose.

“Together, we can reposition education in Kwara as the pride of our nation. The journey starts with principled leadership and collective commitment.”
