A SECURITY TURNING POINT: PROF. ALI AHMAD LEADS SOLIDARITY VISIT TO WORO COMMUNITY
Former Speaker of the 8th Kwara State House of Assembly and Professor of Constitutional Law, Prof. Ali Ahmad, has paid a sympathy and solidarity visit to Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, following the recent tragic security incident that claimed lives, displaced residents, and left the community in deep distress.
Prof. Ali Ahmad commenced the visit with a courtesy stop at the Emir’s Palace in Kaiama as a mark of respect and unity with the traditional institution and the people of the emirate during this difficult period.
He was warmly received on behalf of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar (Bagidi Kiyaru IV), by the Waziri of Kaiama, Alhaji Adamu Gene, alongside senior palace officials, title holders, and community leaders. The engagement at the palace highlighted the critical role of traditional leadership in mobilizing peace, strengthening community confidence, and supporting collective efforts toward security restoration.
From the Emir’s Palace, Prof. Ali Ahmad proceeded to Woro village, where he was received by the Village Head, Hon. Salihu Bio Omar, and other local leaders and residents.
As part of the solidarity visit, Prof. Ali Ahmad also visited the burial site of the victims, where he offered special prayers for the departed souls and observed a solemn moment of reflection in honour of their memories.
While addressing the people, Prof. Ali Ahmad expressed deep sympathy over the painful incident, describing it as one of the most disturbing security tragedies recorded in the area in recent months.
“This tragedy is not Woro’s problem alone; it is a Kaiama tragedy, a Kwara tragedy, and a collective pain that should concern every well-meaning citizen,” Prof. Ali Ahmad declared.
He lamented the heavy losses suffered by the community, including destroyed homes, burnt residential buildings, damaged shops, and disrupted livelihoods, raising serious concern over how affected families will rebuild their lives.
“Our people have lost loved ones, homes, and means of livelihood. The question now is: how do these families recover and restart their lives after this painful destruction?” he asked.
Prof. Ali Ahmad also drew attention to those still missing after the attack, including vulnerable persons, stressing that their safe return must be treated with urgency and seriousness, and must not be allowed to fade into silence.
He further declared that the Woro tragedy must serve as a turning point in security response, calling for a shift from reaction to prevention through stronger intelligence gathering, functional early warning systems, closer community–security collaboration, and sustained protective presence for vulnerable rural communities.
“We must move beyond reacting after damage has been done. Security must shift from response to prevention through intelligence, early warning systems, and constant protection of vulnerable rural communities,” he emphasized.
The former Speaker urged government authorities, security agencies, traditional rulers, and citizens to work together to ensure that such an incident never happens again, noting that the safety of rural communities must become a priority and not an afterthought.
The visit concluded with collective prayers, messages of hope, and a firm resolve that decisive and lasting security improvements must follow this painful moment.
End.
