THE HORRIFIC ATTACK ON WORO COMMUNITY IN KAIAMA: WE MUST PREVENT A REPEAT OF ATTACKS ON OUR COMMUNITIES — PROF. ALI AHMAD

With deep sorrow and a heavy heart, I join family members, friends, community leaders, and well-wishers in mourning the tragic attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State—a grievous assault on innocent citizens, their homes, and the peace of the entire region. This attack is the deadliest in the history of Kwara State, marking a dark chapter in our collective memory.

The Woro attack, which reportedly began in the early afternoon and held the village hostage until the early hours of the following day, has left scores dead, many young females abducted, homes destroyed, and the community in deep mourning. Beyond the loss of lives and property, the incident has inflicted severe emotional trauma on survivors and is gradually severing citizens from their indigenous communities as fear drives families away from ancestral homes.

For the people of Woro, Nuku, and the entire Kaiama Local Government Area, this tragedy represents more than a moment of sorrow; it is a disruption of life, a challenge to the social fabric, and a test of collective resilience. Yet, in their courage, solidarity, and prayers for peace, the enduring spirit of the community remains alive and resolute.

While the Federal Government has deployed security personnel to the area, it is imperative to stress that prevention is far more important than reaction. No force can return lives already lost. Authorities must prioritize mechanisms to avert such attacks before they occur, strengthen intelligence, and protect vulnerable communities from further harm.

This tragic episode is a solemn reminder that true security is measured not only by response but by proactive measures that safeguard lives, homes, and heritage. At this moment of national grief, I pray that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of those lost, grants them Al-Jannah Firdaus, restores peace to Kaiama, comforts the bereaved, and strengthens all families affected by this calamity. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.
