Prof. Ali Ahmad Mourns Victims of Patigi Killings: Condemns Rising Insecurity in Kwara

Prof. Ali Ahmad , former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and Professor of Constitutional Law, has expressed deep sorrow over the brutal killing of Alhaji Abdullahi Kpotun, the PDP Chairman of Lade Ward 1, and his son in the Lile community of Patigi Local Government Area by suspected bandits.

Describing the incident as a heartbreaking reminder of the rising insecurity in
Kwara North and Kwara in general, Prof. Ahmad noted that the murder of Alhaji Kpotun is not only a painful loss to the immediate family but a grave blow to the community and the PDP family across the state.

“This is a dark and difficult moment for Patigi and all of us who believe in justice, security, and peace for our rural communities,” Prof. Ahmad stated.

He extolled the late Alhaji Kpotun’s dedication to grassroots development, describing him as a man of peace, humility, and loyalty to his people and party.

Prof. Ahmad further offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Lade community, and the entire Patigi Emirate, praying for divine comfort and eternal rest for the departed.

Calling on the government to take urgent and decisive steps, he warned that no society survives prolonged silence in the face of organized violence.

“Kwara State cannot afford to sleep while innocent souls are being enlisted daily in the roll call of avoidable deaths,” he declared.

Prof. Ahmad also stressed that the fact this attack specifically targeted members of the PDP family—claiming the lives of a Ward Chairman and his son—raises legitimate concerns and perceptions that must not be ignored. To prevent any dangerous inferences or insinuations of political motivation, the Governor must go the extra mile to ensure this particular case is thoroughly investigated and transparently resolved. It must not be treated as yet another routine security incident. Going to the root of this matter is essential—not just for justice, but to uphold public confidence and avoid a narrative that could further polarize the state.
