Prof. Ali Ahmad Decries Insecurity Around KWASU Malete: Protecting Students Is a Shared Responsibility

Prof. Ali Ahmad, former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and Professor of Constitutional Law, has expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity affecting students of the Kwara State University (KWASU), particularly those residing off-campus in Malete.

Reports of night attacks, robberies, and incidents of sexual harassment against female students, he noted, are alarming and demand immediate attention from all stakeholders. “No student should live in fear while pursuing education. The situation around KWASU’s host community is fast becoming a nightmare,” Prof. Ahmad stated.

While commending the university authority for its swift and proactive response to these ungodly acts, Prof. Ahmad emphasized that security must not be left solely to the school management. He called on the Kwara State Government to urgently intervene by providing security reinforcement and ensuring the safety of lives and properties around the institution.

Prof. Ahmad also issued a strong appeal to the Malete community, stressing that protecting students is not just the responsibility of the school or the government.

The host community must rise to its civic responsibility. Security is a shared duty — local residents must collaborate to safeguard these students who live among them, he added.

Describing KWASU as a legacy institution whose name must be protected, Prof. Ahmad urged all concerned — from local leaders to state authorities — to act swiftly and decisively to restore peace and confidence in the university environment.
