Prof. Ali Ahmad Celebrates Teachers as Nation Builders, Commends Kwara Teachers’ Resilience on World Teachers’ Day
Prof. Ali Ahmad, former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and Professor of Constitutional Law, has joined millions across the globe to commemorate the 2025 World Teachers’ Day, describing teachers as “the true nation builders and custodians of human civilization.”
In a statement personally signed by him on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Prof. Ahmad paid glowing tribute to teachers worldwide and particularly commended the resilience, sacrifices, and commitment of teachers in Kwara State, who, despite challenges of inadequate facilities and poor welfare, continue to shape the destinies of future generations.
“Teachers are the backbone of every society. They are not just educators; they are mentors, counselors, and reformers who build minds, shape character, and ignite the flame of progress in every nation,” Prof. Ahmad stated.
He recalled his humble beginnings at Jebba Teachers’ College, noting that his formative years as a teacher taught him the values of patience, service, and leadership — virtues that continue to guide him through public life and governance.
“Teaching remains the most noble profession because it gives birth to all other professions. Every doctor, engineer, lawyer, or leader owes their success to the dedication of a teacher who believed in them. I am proud to have emerged from the teaching profession, and I carry that identity with deep honor,” he said.
Prof. Ahmad, however, expressed concern that Nigerian teachers, especially those in Kwara, continue to face neglect and underappreciation despite their indispensable role in national development. He urged government at all levels to prioritize teachers’ welfare, improve working conditions, and invest in continuous professional development, stressing that education cannot thrive without motivated teachers.
“Our teachers in Kwara State have demonstrated remarkable courage and devotion. Many of them work in rural areas under difficult conditions, yet they show up every day to inspire children. They are unsung heroes who deserve far more recognition and support than they currently receive,” he added.
He further emphasized that the development of any nation depends on the quality of its teachers, noting:
“No country can rise above the standard of its teachers. If we seek a prosperous Kwara and a great Nigeria, then we must begin by rebuilding respect for teachers and ensuring that their welfare reflects their importance.”
Prof. Ahmad concluded by extending warm wishes to all teachers across the world, reaffirming his commitment to policies and initiatives that will strengthen the teaching profession and enhance educational outcomes in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
“On this World Teachers’ Day, I celebrate every teacher — past and present — for their patience, passion, and perseverance. You are the silent architects of greatness and the true builders of our collective future. May your sacrifices never go in vain.”
